Luma 0.14 is out. See what changed

The web, in a better light.

Luma keeps work, home and everything else in separate workspaces, puts your tabs in a sidebar and blocks trackers before a page has a chance to load them.

Luma with its sidebar: three workspaces, Essentials, tabs and an article open

Each thing in its own place

Luma is built around workspaces, so your forty tabs don’t end up in one long list. Here is how they work.

  1. A workspace for everything

Work, home, the trip you are planning. Every workspace has its own tabs, colour and symbol. Swipe with two fingers on the sidebar to move between them. The sites you open every day go in Essentials, at the top, and stay there whichever workspace you are in.

  2. The dock at the bottom

Press + and the dock opens into a small form: give the workspace a name, pick a symbol and a colour. Settings and the menu open from the same spot, on top of the page, so you never end up hunting for a window.

  3. Right-click a tab

Move it to another workspace, pin it, put it to sleep or split it with another tab. Every action has its icon, and workspaces show their own symbol.

  4. Extensions and downloads

They sit in a small row under the address bar and open into a list when you click them. When a download is done, drag it straight to the desktop or into another app.

Trackers are blocked from the first page

Trackers, ads and third-party cookies are blocked as soon as you install Luma. If a site stops working, you can turn the protections off for that site only. History, passwords and statistics stay on your computer.

Lumo, next to your tabs

Lumo is an AI assistant for Windows, from the people who make Luma. It is a separate app: if you have both, Luma opens Lumo in a side panel next to the page.

Frequently asked questions

Which systems does Luma run on?

Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. The versions for macOS and Linux are on the way. On Windows it installs without administrator rights, for your account only.

Does Luma collect my data?

No. The numbers on the privacy dashboard are counted on your computer and stay there. If you turn on sync, it goes to a folder or a WebDAV server you choose, encrypted end to end.

What is a workspace?

A group of tabs with its own name, colour and symbol: one for work, one for home, one for a trip. You switch from the dock at the bottom of the sidebar or with a two-finger swipe. If you give a workspace a container, its cookies are kept apart, so you can be signed in to two accounts on the same site.

Do websites work like in Chrome?

Yes. Luma runs on Chromium, the same engine as Chrome and Edge. If a site breaks because of a protection, you can turn it off for that site only.

Can I use my Chrome extensions?

Yes, from the Chrome Web Store, Manifest V3 and V2. A few APIs that only Chrome has are missing; the extensions page in Luma lists them.

Do I need Lumo to use Luma?

No. Luma is a complete browser on its own. Lumo is a separate AI assistant for Windows: if it is installed, Luma shows it in a side panel.

How do I become a beta tester?

Join the Discord and apply in the beta channel. Beta builds come out before each release.

How are my passwords stored?

Encrypted with your system's secure storage, on your computer. On Windows, Luma asks for Windows Hello before showing, copying or exporting them.

Which languages are available?

English and Italian. Luma uses your system language and you can change it in Settings.
